Autonomous Systems Policy Institute (ASPI)
ASPI is a campus-wide institute dedicated to interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching on the design, governance and wider implications of autonomous systems, and to critically engaging and shaping the policy and ethical frameworks that guide the use and development of autonomous systems. ASPI’s work focuses all autonomous systems, from driverless cars to unmanned aerial vehicles to maritime systems.

Aging Studies Institute (ASI)
This university-wide institute coordinates and promotes aging-related research, training, and outreach at Syracuse University. This collaborative initiative of the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and the David B. Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics involves over 30 faculty affiliates from more than a dozen academic departments across the university. The faculty affiliates’ research and teaching interests fall into five thematic areas: Age-Based Public Policy and Wellbeing; Population Aging; Health and Functioning; Family Dynamics, Care Work, and Intergenerational Support; Aging Design, Engineering, and Technology.  ASI is also home to the Center for Aging & Policy Studies (CAPS), which previously was supported by the National Institute on Aging Demography and Economics of Aging Centers program.

The Ballentine Investment Institute
The activities of The Ballentine Investment Institute in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management are meant to “bring the markets alive,” allowing students to experience and study the markets as they move, in real time, and to learn from people who are in the thick of things day-in and day-out.

George E. Bennett Center for Accounting and Tax Research
The mission of The George E. Bennett Center for Accounting and Tax Research is to strengthen and expand the educational opportunities for students within the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The income from the fund is used to support significant research projects in accounting and related taxation issues, and to disseminate the research findings to students, faculty, and other interested parties in order to enhance the reputation of the School and to honor the donor, James Francis Toole, and the late George E. Bennett, professor of accounting at the Whitman School.

The BioInspired Institute
BioInspired Syracuse supports research into complex biological systems, developing and designing programmable smart materials to address global challenges in health, medicine and materials innovation. It is an Institute for Material and Living Systems, focusing on three key areas: drug discovery, smart materials, and development and disease. BioInspired involves from life sciences, engineering, physics and chemistry.

Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture
The Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications provides scholarship, commentary, and education in the areas of television and popular culture.  In addition to academic and research activities, the Center has become a source of expertise to the nation’s media on all aspects of television and American popular culture.

The Syracuse Biomaterials Institute (SBI)
The Syracuse Biomaterials Institute (SBI) is an interdisciplinary institute focused on research in biological materials, from the properties of individual cells, to their organization into tissues and organs, to the development of smart medical devices.  Areas of focus range from applied biomaterials research, aiming at designing natural and synthetic substances designed to treat, augment, or replace tissues and organs of the human body as treatments for disease or injury, to fundamental research into the interactions between biological matter and non-living materials.

Robert H. Brethen Operations Management Institute
The mission of the Robert H. Brethen Operations Management Institute is to foster the development and distribution of new knowledge about managing operating systems. The institute serves three distinct constituencies: Martin J. Whitman School of Management students, particularly those with an interest in operations management; practicing executives, particularly those with operations located in the Northeastern United States; and the world-wide community of scholars and teachers interested in developing and sharing their ideas about the art and theory of operations management.

The Burton Blatt Institute (BBI)
The Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at Syracuse University  reaches around the globe in its efforts to advance the civic, economic, and social participation of people with disabilities. Officially launched at Syracuse University in 2005, BBI builds on the legacy of Burton Blatt, former dean of SU’s School of Education and a pioneering disability rights scholar, to better the lives of people with disabilities. BBI engages in projects on civil and human rights, economic empowerment, inclusive entrepreneurship, and employment. With a staff of more than 60, BBI has offices in Syracuse, N.Y., Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Ga., New York, N.Y., and Tel Aviv, Israel.

Campbell Public Affairs Institute
The Campbell Public Affairs Institute is an interdisciplinary research organization in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs dedicated to linking the worlds of scholarship and public affairs. The mission of the Institute is to examine the ideal of citizenship, its evolution, and the conditions under which it thrives. The Institute explores the relationship among citizens, private organizations, and government in an effort to understand the development and implementation of effective leadership, management, and policy. The Institute helps support faculty research, service projects, and doctoral student development and presents a wide range of seminars, workshops, and guest speakers, including the Sawyer Law and Politics Program, the State of Democracy Lecture Series, and the Maxwell Poll.

Center for Advanced Systems and Engineering (CASE)
The Mission of the CASE Center is to be a key contributor to the high-technology economy of New York State by making available the intellectual (and other) resources of Syracuse University and collaborating with New York State businesses and economic development organizations.

Center for Convergence and Emerging Networking Technologies (CCENT)
The Center for Convergence and Emerging Networking Technologies (CCENT) is an initiative by the School of Information Studies to research on how inter-operable systems and technologies are converging to provide solutions for industries and economies.  The main focus of the center is to research on upcoming technologies and to identify where it fits in at the level of enterprise technological architecture.  The Center for Convergence and Emerging Networking Technologies is the result of the merger of the Convergence Center and the Center for Emerging Technologies (CENT). Their main mission is to understand and study the future of networking technologies and to engage students, faculty and industry in the process of defining and shaping that future.

Center for Digital Literacy (CDL)
The Center for Digital Literacy (CDL) is an interdisciplinary, collaborative research and development center dedicated to : (1) understanding the impact of information, technology and media literacies on children and adults (particularly those from underserved populations) in today’s technology-intensive society and (2) studying the impact having or not having these literacies has on people, organizations, and society.  The CDL is directed by faculty partners from the School of Information Studies, the Newhouse School of Public Communications, and the School of Education at Syracuse University. This interdisciplinary approach allows us to look at issues from a variety of perspectives and to exchange ideas that broaden and enlighten approaches to research in this area.

Center for Environmental Quality Systems (EQS)
This state-wide consortium of nine academic institutions and two not-for-profit organizations has the mission to conduct research, create new knowledge, develop and transfer technology, and educate professionals in integrated systems that enhance human health and performance, reduce lifecycle costs and improve the quality of built and urban environments.

Center for Environmental Systems Engineering (CESE)
The Center for Environmental Systems Engineering encompasses faculty from the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Syracuse University. Faculty within CESE conduct research under the broad topic of environmental systems, focusing on environmental assessment and environmental technology.

Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (CoE)
The Center of Excellence brings together a dynamic group of world-class participants. Universities. Research partners. Corporations. Economic development groups. All the participants are collaborating to develop new technologies, solutions, and applications that improve human health and productivity in built and urban environments.

Center on Human Policy (CHP)
The Center on Human Policy in the School of Education is a policy, research, and advocacy organization involved in the national movement to insure the rights of people with disabilities.

Center for Information and Systems Assurance and Trust (CISAT)
The Center for Information and Systems Assurance and Trust (CISAT) promotes the exploration of new ideas in information and systems assurance and trust by bringing together faculty from six schools and colleges at Syracuse University: L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science, College of Law, iSchool, Maxwell, Newhouse, and Arts and Sciences.  CISAT will also serve to engage university partners including JP Morgan Chase, the US Air Force Research Laboratory’s (AFRL) Information Directorate, and other agencies and companies to form a Community of Practice in information and systems assurance and trust.  CISAT also supports research, teaching, and outreach activities related to information and systems assurance and trust, as well as conferences, seminars, courses, and special offerings and events.

Center for Computational and Data Sciences (CCDS)
The mission of the Center for Computational and Data Sciences in the School of Information Studies is to advance important and practical research in the social sciences, using advanced computational approaches.

Center for Policy Research (CPR)
The Center for Policy Research (CPR) is an interdisciplinary applied policy research program in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. The CPR conducts a broad range of interdisciplinary research and related activities in the areas of: aging, disability, social welfare, and income security policy; domestic urban and regional issues; and public finance; particularly education finance.

Center for Research on Collaboratories and Technology Enhanced Learning Communities (COTELCO)
The Center for Research on Collaboratories and Technology Enhanced Learning Communities(COTELCO), is a joint social science research center in the School of International Service (SIS) at American University and the School of Information Studies (iSchool) at Syracuse University, and is organized to explore the socio-technical infrastructure required to support geographically distributed collaboration and knowledge work, particularly between developed and developing countries. COTELCO is also an affiliated center of the Burton Blatt Institute (BBI):Centers of Innovation on Disability.

Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship
The Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship is the outreach arm of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The mission of the Falcone Center is the facilitation of entrepreneurial activity on the campus, in the local and regional community, and beyond.  The Falcone Center offers a portfolio of innovative programs and initiatives for various constituencies.  These programs are organized into two areas: student and campus-focused initiatives and community entrepreneurship programs.

Forensic and National Security Sciences Institute (FNSSI)
Syracuse University’s Forensic and National Security Sciences Institute (FNSSI) provides vital national leadership and a uniquely integrated and comprehensive approach to combat crime and terrorism through research and education.  The FNSSI performs groundbreaking research with well-developed integrated analysis, develops and disseminates critical forensic, political, and legal tools and information, and trains highly qualified graduates to effectively detect, counter, and prosecute crime and terrorism.

The H. H. Franklin Center for Supply Chain Management
Transportation and distribution have long been an important part of Central New York, going back to the Erie Canal and the Saint Lawrence Seaway. The H. H. Franklin Center for Supply Chain Management Martin J. Whitman School of Management was established in 1920 through the generous donation of a local industrialist and founder of the Franklin Automobile Company. The supply chain management program at Syracuse University and the Franklin Center has a rich history supporting student and faculty activities in supply chain management.

Institute for the Study of Judiciary, Politicis and the Media (IJPM)
Founded in 2006, the Institute for the Study of Judiciary, Politics and the Media (IJPM) is a first-of-its-kind academic institute devoted to the interdisciplinary study of issues at the intersection of law, politics, and the media.  IJPM is a collaborative effort between Syracuse University’s College of Law, Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, and S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism (INSCT)
The Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism (INSCT) is a multidisciplinary, university-based center that is jointly sponsored by Syracuse University’s College of Law and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. The INSCT is dedicated to teaching, research, and public service focused on important national and global problems of security and terrorism.

Institute for Sensory Research (ISR)
The Institute for Sensory Research in the College of Engineering and Computer Science is a premiere research facility subdivided into 12 laboratories encompassing mechano-receptive anatomy, visual anatomy, visual psychophysics, auditory physiology, tactile psychophysics, tactile physiology, sensory – motointegration, biomaterials and biomechanics.

Olivia and Walter Kiebach Center for International Business Studies
The Kiebach Center in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management works to increase student appreciation, knowledge, and career development in international business. The Center also promotes the international business expertise in the teaching, scholarship, and service of the faculty.

Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs
The mission of the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs in the Maxwell School is to extend, integrate, and focus the Maxwell School’s commitment to exploring the international and global concerns raised by an interdependent world of diverse cultures, economies, and political systems; support interdisciplinary, collaborative research projects among teams of faculty and graduate students to work on understanding and solving critical world problems; maintain a productive dialogue between the academic and policymaking communities in the process of translating theory into practice.

New York State Science and Technology Law Center
The mission of the New York State Science and Technology Law Center (NYS STLC) is to assist and provide information to New York’s Centers for Advanced Technology, Strategically Targeted Academic Research Centers, Advanced Research Centers, Centers of Excellence, Generating Employment Through New York Science Centers (collectively, “Research Centers”) and startup and early stage technology companies as they develop and market new technologies and seek to compete in the high technology marketplace. To this end, the NYS STLC advises the Research Centers, NYSTAR, academic institutions, and other public and private stakeholders on a wide range of technology-related legal issues, including the protection and commercialization of intellectual property, technology transfer practices, patents, copyright and trademark law, and licensing agreements. To fulfill its mission, the NYS STLC draws upon the extensive faculty and student resources available through the Syracuse University College of Law and Syracuse University New Technology Law Program (“SUNTEC”).

Harry E. Salzberg Memorial Program
Since 1949 the Harry E. Salzberg Memorial Program at Syracuse University has been presenting Salzberg Medallions to individuals and companies in recognition of outstanding achievement in or contributions to the fields of transportation, logistics, and supply chain management. Organized by the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, the program features lectures by the medallion recipients, award ceremonies, as well as presentations from other distinguished professionals and selected students. The audience is drawn from the Syracuse University community, officials and policy makers from all levels of government, and from the national business community.

Earl V. Snyder Innovation Management Program
The Earl V. Snyder Innovation Management Research Center in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management is dedicated to the study and understanding of innovation and how it works, and the continuous advancement of performance in innovation and its management.

Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC)
The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse – a joint center of the Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Martin J. Whitman School of Management – is a data gathering, data research and data distribution organization providing access to comprehensive information on federal staffing, spending, and enforcement activities of the federal government.

The Tully Center for Free Speech
The Tully Center for Free Speech began in 2006 at the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.  The mission of the Tully Center for Free Speech is to educate university students and the public about the important value of free speech.  Through education, resources and research, the Center will strive to contribute to the discussion of media law issues in New York State, the nation, and the world.
